I took the time to go see the new Superman movie the other day, and although I have some mixed opinions about it overall, it did have a lot of optimistic messaging. I’ve always found it interesting that Superman recharges with our yellow sun, which shows you the power of light and optimism. The thing that weakens him is a part of his home world, which shows you that the longing for home and safety is a weakness. And if there’s one thing that Superman stands for it is hope, and you can’t find hope if you’re clinging to the past.
I would then say that Lois is his Moon, a reflection and balance. In this version there was definitely more balance between them, the dialogue they shared showed you this wasn’t the 1978 version. The dance between the sun and the moon is also reflected in the final dance between Lois and Superman as they float into the air together in the ending scenes.
